Working KITAS – E23

E23 Working KITAS is a residence + work permit for foreign nationals who are employed by an Indonesian company. it allows you to live in Indonesia and work legally for a local employer. It is a “sponsored visa”: your employer must act as sponsor and provide the necessary company documentation and approvals. The permit pairs a residence component (KITAS / ITAS) with a work permit (often called IMTA). both are required for legal employment.

E23 Working KITAS is appropriate if you:
a. Are a foreigner who has secured employment with an Indonesian company, and you want to live + work legally in Indonesia.
b. Plan to stay for mid-term or long-term (1–2 years, renewable up to several years).
c. May want to bring family with you.
d. Want proper legal status (salary, social security, ability to travel in/out) rather than using tourist visa or informal arrangements.

Restrictions / what you cannot do under E23:
1. You can’t work outside the scope of your employment contract. job duties and employer must match the approved permit
2. If the permit expires or is cancelled, you must stop working and leave / extend/renew properly. overstaying or working without valid permit is a violation.
3. If you change employer or job role, you generally need a new sponsorship / new KITAS + work permit. you cannot simply transfer the old one across jobs.
